This is the first title in the PHD Comics series. It is a compilation of the first strips of Jorge Cham’s phenomenally popular webcomic.

If you are slightly inclined towards academics and have been through the rigours of Grad School then you can actually identify with the key characters here. And even if you haven’t been through Grad School, you will find yourself laughing away at the humour here. In many ways it chronicles the life of a typical grad student, highlighting his / her interactions with other students, advisors and the like.

Since this is the first comic, you can actually see the evolution of the author’s cartoon definitions of the lead characters, just like the representation of the leads in the first comic strips of Asterix (Asterix the Gaul) and Tintin (Tintin in the Land of the Soviets) is quite different from those in subsequent comics.
